BARIUM SWALLOW

बेरियम की कॉन्टेस्ट क्वालिटी सुपीरियर होती हैं जब तक कोई विशेष कन्ट्राइंडिकेशन (contraindication) न दिया हो |

Barium Swallow

Indication-

                  - Dysphagia भूख ना लगना |
                  - Anaemia
                  - pain
                  - Assessment of tracheo-oesophageal fistulae (Tracheo oesophageal fistulae का निर्धारण )
                  - Assessment of the site of perforation (Perfoataion की जगह का निर्धारण )|

Contraindication- 

                             None

Contrast Media  -

                            बेरियम 250 % 100ml (or more as required)

                           - Gastrografin
                           - LOCM (350mg I/ml)
Note -

• अगर पेशेंट के Tracheo oesophageal fistulae हो या contrast aspiration की संभावना हो तो              Gastrografin कंट्रास्ट मीडिया का उपयोग नहीं करना चाहिए |
•  अगर पेशेंट की GIT में perforation हो तो बेरियम काम में नहीं लिया जाना चाहिए |

Equipment - 

Laryngopharynx तथा deglutition (निगलना) के दौरान upper oesophagus के assessment के लिए rapid serial radiography ( 2 frames per second) या video recording की आयश्यकता होती हैं |

Patient preparation - 

                                 None

Preliminary film-

                             अगर पेशेंट के perforation सस्पेक्टेड हैं तो water soluble contrast media के साथ control film ली जाती हैं |

Technique- 

                  Oesophagus को spine से अलग करने के लिए RAO (right anterior oblique) film ली जाती हैं | इसके लिए थोड़ा सा बेरियम मुँह में लेकर पेशेंट को इसे निगलने को कहा जाता हैं तथा upper oesophagus व lower oesophagus की spot film ली जाती हैं |
इसके अलावा जरुरत होने पर right lateral, RAO तथा PA position में रेडिओग्राफ लिए जाते हैं |

Aftercare - 

                   none.

Complications -

                        - किसी असंभावित perforation से Barium का lekage.
                        - Aspiration.
